Over the past decade Ian has drawn increasingly from his person daily journal entries, and more recently from the poetry of Indian poet laureate Rabindranath Tagore and American poet Erich Biemer. Continually influenced by various forms of philosophy, religion, personal heritage, and his position as an art curator are some of the avenues for his artistic expression. Ian has exhibited extensively in group shows and has had several solo exhibitions since 1993.
This painting is a response to the surroundings of my work environment. As I walk up the back stairs to go to the studio I can on most days smell the exotic odors of asian cooking, like roast pork and duck. At the very base of this painting are my written thoughts about these daily occurances and how they influence the outcome of my painting experiences.
